Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure. It involves the removal of excess skin on the upper or lower eyelids. Drooping eyelids negatively affect our appearance, we are perceived as less attractive and older. Eyelid lifting is the most effective method to solve this problem. This is why it is said that eyelid surgery can take up to 20 years off!

Indications
The indication for surgery is excess skin located in the area of the upper or lower eyelids. The treatment is aimed at restoring the natural shape of the eyelids and freeing the patient from the feeling of heaviness around the eyes – the excess skin on the eyelids causes the eyes to tire faster. The field of vision may also be obscured, which in turn leads to degeneration and pain in the cervical spine.
Procedure
Surgical correction of drooping eyelids is one of the one day surgery procedures. They are preceded by a medical consultation, during which the doctor will collect anamnesis about possible eye diseases, allergies, cancers and medications taken. The specialist evaluates the symmetry of the position of the eyebrows and eyes and discusses with the patient the possible effects of eyelid correction.
Eyelid surgery is performed under local anesthesia – general anesthesia is not necessary for this type of surgery. Eyelid lifting is performed using the Loktal medical device. This is not the same as a laser eyelid lift – Loktal is very precise, it minimizes bleeding during the procedure and the risk of hypertrophic scars. The doctor places thin stitches, which are removed after 7 days.
Tests to be done before surgery
Surgical removal of excess skin on the eyelids requires several tests, based on which the doctor will qualify the patient for the procedure:

Effects
The effects of blepharoplasty last for a very long time – it is assumed that the patient performs 1, maximum 2 such procedures during lifetime. Eyelid lifting restores a young look, improves the comfort of everyday functioning, because our eyesight does not get tired so quickly.

FAQ
Blepharoplasty – at what age?
This is a frequent question of our patients, but there is no clear answer to it. The patient should make his own decision. Blepharoplasty is used by both young people, aged about 30 (due to the so-called Asian structure of the eye, which hinders their daily functioning or negatively affects their appearance), as well as people aged 40-80.
Can I eat or drink coffee before the procedure?
Before eyelid correction, the patient should eat a light meal – if the procedure is in the morning, then breakfast, and if in the afternoon, then he should also eat a light dinner. The point is not to come hungry to the procedure, because then the anesthesia may cause dizziness or fainting. It is better to give up coffee before the procedure, but doctors usually allow a few sips.
What are the recommendations after blepharoplasty?
Recommendations after blepharoplasty are crucial for the success of the procedure, so it is worth getting acquainted with them. With stitches still in place, we avoid hot baths, bending over hot fumes, we do not go to saunas, we do not sunbathe. The patient should not tilt his head down.
What position to sleep in after blepharoplasty?
For the first nights after the procedure, we recommend sleeping on your back in a semi-sitting position. This prevents bruising.
What will I look like immediately after the procedure?
After the procedure, the eye area is swollen, stitches are placed on the eyelids, so the field of vision may be limited.
Can I drive home after eyelid correction?
Immediately after the procedure, the patient cannot drive a car, so self-driving home is out of the question. It should be remembered that blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure – we use local anesthesia, after which the patient may be weakened.
Should I use cooling compresses after the procedure?
We recommend our patients to use cooling compresses that reduce swelling and the risk of bruises. Compresses can be purchased at a pharmacy or home remedies, such as frozen sugar peas wrapped in a towel.
What to use for pain?
After eyelid correction surgery, pain may occur, so it is worth getting painkillers containing ibuprofen.
What to use for dry eyes?
If, after the procedure, the dry eye syndrome appears it can be treated with lubricating eye drops. In case of doubt, consult the doctor performing the procedure.
What does the scar look like after the procedure?
The cut is made in the furrow of the upper eyelid, thanks to which the scar is hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid. The scar is not very visible, which is also influenced by the Loktal used for the procedure and the method of suture placement. The scar after blepharoplasty can be revitalized using microneedle radiofrequency – we also perform this procedure at our institute.
